Land of the Wax Palm. Valle de Cocora, Colombia
In 2010 my wife and I traveled to Colombia for New Years Eve in
These photos are from the majestic Valle de Cocora, in the Zona Cafetal region in the Andes of Central Colombia. It is one of the most beautiful and unusual mountain landscapes I have witnessed. There excellent hiking and trekking options here. Standing out in most of them is the towering wax palm tree, the tallest species of palm and also Colombia’s national tree. They really modify the landscape into this sort of surreal atmosphere especially combined with the ever-changing light.
We lucked upon an annual festival that was happening in nearby Salento and had loads of yummy street food, loud music and dancing in the streets.
