Here’s a cool travel photo of a gnarly tree silhouetted by The Milky Way on Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii. My wife and I hiked up to a popular view point to see the sunset. On the way up I noticed the cool trees and conceived the idea for this shot. It was pitch dark, cold, blowing, and I had no flashlight or tripod. I used the video light on our pocket camcorder to see my immediate surroundings. I handheld the camera against a tuft of grass and applied constant downward pressure for a 30 second exposure. This was the best of 6 attempts.

When I’m not doing wedding and newborn photography in Boston, I am passionate about travel. These images are from two trips to South Asia last year. Click on the image below to see them all. Enjoy
We aren’t in Boston here. It’s Alaska! We had a great group and the best weather. This was couple days before the wedding ceremony on an awesome day hike from Girdwood that goes to the highest point on the Iditarod Trail.
